Over the past few months, we have noticed a growing number of people that we are associated with wishing to do something sort of non-traditional for a gift idea or in honor of someone they love. Through our connection to so many families that desperately need help, the dream to connect those families with people wishing to give in beautiful generous ways has taken root.
On November 9 - we built a house in honor of a man who a year ago on the 9th of November lost his life here on this earth. You can read more about his wife's journey on her blog at veronking2003.blogspot.com Sweet sweet family who horribly misses what must have been an incredible man. His impact has been amazing even on those who never knew him in this life and so we attempted to honor the man that he was in some sort of way that would have lasting impact. As a result two houses have now been built in his honor and his memory lives on even here in this little desperate country and has offered other families hope. That was the beginning of this "In Honor of You" project. We pray to continue to build a house every November 9th for a really long time in his honor. We are calling that specific project "Kings Quarters" as his name was Jeremy King.
Now we're on to Project #2. One of my dear friends wrote several days ago asking if I thought we could do something non-traditional for a birthday gift in honor of her sweet husband. He is turning 50 on the 22nd of November and she wanted to rally family and friends to help build a house in celebration of his birthday. His heart for the underprivileged and hopeless is clearly evident in the way that he lives his life so this seems like such an appropriate gift.
I will post more details in another post to explain how to become a part of this project. If you or anyone you know would like to "give" something that goes far beyond the new box of perfume or the gifts that sometimes run out quickly...this is one that lasts for a really really long time in really precious ways. Helping a family have a place to live and call home is a beautiful gift that honors everyone - most especially the God who smiles as we give ourselves away.
It is MY honor to join you in this quest.
